Diaper Connoisseur

I was recently thinking about how diapers are like wine.

"Uh, Busy-Dad-E, are you sure that your food poisoning didn't turn into brain poisoning?"

Maybe.

Or maybe it's just that we have a newborn, plus a toddler with residual diacoflupus, meaning that we change about 97,000 diapers/day right now, giving me too much ample time to think about this.

Nevertheless, just go with US me.

When it comes to wine, some people's tastes are exclusively white, red, or blush.

WHEN IT COMES TO DIAPERS, SOME PEOPLE ARE EXCLUSIVELY PAMPERS, HUGGIES, OR LUVS.

Within each broader category of wine, there are different types.

PAMPERS HAS "CRUISERS" AND "REGULAR".

And some people acquire tastes for different wines over time.

LITTLE BROTHER WAS EXCLUSIVELY PAMPERS FOR A LONG TIME, BUT EVENTUALLY WE TRANSITIONED TO LUVS.

And what some people will drink, say white or red, depends on the meal.

LITTLE BROTHER IS LUVS DURING THE DAY AND PAMPERS AT NIGHT.

Some people spare no expense for wine, while others go for the cheap stuff, and yet more creative types make their own.

PAMPERS CRUISERS ARE A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE (BUT GOOD FOR OUR NEWBORN BOY(S) AND FOR TODDLERS AT NIGHT), BUT "ROBUST" (I.E., THEY HOLD A LOT SANS LEAKAGE). LUVS ARE CHEAPER BUT PRACTICAL DURING THE DAY. AND SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE TO MAKE THEIR OWN CLOTH DIAPERS (THAT WOULD NOT BE US).

No matter how great someone claims a particular wine to be, they will have a friend who (politely) disagrees.

SOME PEOPLE SWEAR BY HUGGIES. THAT'S GREAT. FOR OUR BOYS, HUGGIES ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH "LEAKIES".

People may prefer their wine chilled or at room temperature.

DIAPERS CAN ACCOMMODATE BOTH "FLAVORS."

People display unopened bottles of wine in their homes.

WE HAVE AN ENTIRE CLOSET A DIAPER-STACKER FULL OF DIAPERS ON DISPLAY.

You can spend a lot of $$$ on wine.

WE DO SPEND A LOT OF $$$ ON DIAPERS.

I could go on-and-on here, but I need a drink to go change a diaper.

I'd love to hear about your "taste" in diapers--so would the rest of the readers here.

See you on Fatherhood Friday,
Busy-Diaper-Dad-E

  1. My favorite diapers are ones that I don't have to change.
Don't ever get confused and drink what's in the diaper.

  2. Would cloth diapers be the equivalent of homemade or top shelf wine? They are home-done, but really expensive if you have a diaper service.

  3. I go with anything that is on sale or have a great coupon. Right now we are using the BJs brand of diapers (BTW, BJs is like a Sams Club or Costco around this area). You get so much diapers for your money and to my surprise hold up very well. LOL! Rosi

  4. GREAT post! I love wine and hate diapers, but I must use diapers on little cousin, and must not drink wine while pregnant! Anyway, little cousin is kind of a connoisseur of diapers. When he started day care, b/c they change his diaper Q hour, even if there is only a small drop of pee, I started buying walmart and target brand diapers. At night, he still wore a pamper, and still does now. He did end up having a lot of leaky diapers at day care, but honestly, he had mega diarrhea from all of the antibiotics from all 8 million of his ear infections...so what diaper wouldn't leak? Now, I have discovered the store brand isn't always the cheapest. If you stack a store coupon with a manufacturer's coupon, plus the diapers are on sale...you may just get your box of diapers for half off! I have had a lot of cheap buys on Huggies at Publix with this scenario (thank you baby club!). So, I'm buying a lot of Huggies for day time use and still going wiht pampers at night b/c they can hold a whole lot of pee! You can get coupons for pampers, but you sure don't get many good deals on them...they are definitely top shelf in my book! That's my two cents! Aunt-E

  5. Five kids. Three are in diapers.
We were Luvs for the longest time. That was until every morning, my son would wake up soaking wet. We were going with Luvs during the day and Huggie's Night Time at bed time for him, but then we found a coupon online for 2 bucks off Huggies. We've been using that ever since.

All I know is that with three kids pooping in diapers all day, my garbage can is smelling something awful. Even though it's a pain, I bag the poopie ones and take them outside..

and throw them in the neighbor's trashcan.

  6. Ah, the diaper days. Long past that. I do remember having my own display and drinking wine, probably the cheap stuff. My favorite diapers? The ones the hubby changed. He was a miracle worker.

  9. @WM: I've never tried to consume diaper contents (unlike our dog), but I have (very briefly) confused which child is able to stand following a diaper change to put pants back on. Note to self: newborns can not bear weight on legs.

@Seashore Subjects: I'd say they can be either.

    @Rosi: cheap + actually work = gold

@Aunt-E: You are the mac when it comes to coupons (and thank-you notes).

@Eric: If only Mom-E would let me dispose of diapers (or dog doo) in other containers.

@Surprised Mom: Agree that a good diaper change is one done by someone else.

@O'Shea: Like I said, Aunt-E is the mac. You should have her stock your bar for you.
